Ramzi Ghotbaldin May 2022.jpeg

Ramzi Ghotbaldin was born in 1955 in Khanaqin, between Iranian Kurdistan and Iraqi Kurdistan, into a family of photographers.

Very young, he participated in the activities of the family studio and this universe naturally directed him towards the School of Fine Arts. He will obtain his diploma in 1975, graphic design/engraving section.

From 1982 to 1990, he was involved in the Kurdish resistance. In 1988, after the gassing of Iraqi Kurdistan, he left to live in Iranian Kurdistan. He will have his first exhibitions there.

It was in 1990 that he was invited to Paris on the occasion of an exhibition of Kurdish artists. He will obtain political asylum and French nationality a few years later.

This double membership determines the singularity of its universe. His work is located at the crossroads of observation, memory and dream, on the borders of memory and imagination.

Arrived in France more than 30 years ago, Ramzi Ghotbaldin, now 67 years old, in full maturity, translates into a generous synthesis, an inner richness and a look of wonder at his environment._cc781905-5cde-3194-bb3b- 136bad5cf58d_

He lives and works in Paris. Since 1996, he exhibits regularly in Paris, in the provinces but also in Belgium, the United States, Kurdistan and the United Kingdom.
